After reading about the solar eclipse on Spaceweather this morning, I took my students outside to view it. We had never heard of looking at the shape of the shadows under the trees before - so we found the nearest tree and were amazed! Amanda (the masters student in the picture) was bathed in half- moon-shaped (or half-sun shaped?) rays of sunlight. Even the wall behind her was covered in crescents! Thank you Spaceweather.com for sharing such a fascinating and beautiful idea.

It does my heart good to see this photograph. My first partial eclipse was in 1970, age 13, and I looked at tree shadows much like these. Im glad some things that people do never change, even around the world over time, especially rare moments like this that bring us delight.
