Details:
While experimenting to find optimum camera settings for capturing Earthshine from the current waxing crescent moon, I recorded small bright outliers of light in the shaded portion both adjacent to the terminator and beyond the tip of the left-hand horn of the growing crescent. The former were obviously due to reflections of sunlight from crater walls but the latter which were small and very bright at first gave the impression that they may be due to occlusion of background stars. However as they did not move and remained in roughly the same position on two consecutive evenings they must be due to reflection of sunlight from a prominent feature on the edge of the Moon. If so, I wonder if it is named? The original photos were taken about half-an-hour apart on 07 and 08 June using a tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix compact camera in manual mode and x60 magnification and processed to produce a comparative mosaic and two animated gif's.
