We were treated to a rare thunderstorm here in Vancouver. This gave us the opportunity to record of what happens to shortwave propagation during and after such an event. It turns out that the energy in the storm raises the noise level on 40m which increases quickly when the anomaly approaches and then drops afterwards sharply. Lightning bolts can be seen as the spikes just before and after 9AM. Most interestingly is what happens after the storm.It also seems to indicate that thunderstorms have a positive effect on shortwave propagation. The RF seismograph clearly indicates a drop in the noise level and traffic on all bands (indicated by the small square boxes).
