Really interested to see the Antonio Lovane post- I also caught the same bulge. This photo was produced with a Questar telescope and a Nikon D800, also shows the Venus black drop with no bulge. Posted this to support this observation and perhaps someone will have a good explanation. Perhaps some others also observed this effect. The Bulge was only present when Mercury was on the edge 15 seconds prior there was no bulge as well as 30 seconds after.
