Details:
Weather was Sunny but patchy, variable cloud. Not the best of conditions. 1216BST Managed to see 1st and 2nd contact of Mercury. through variable cloud. Planet looks very small compared to Venus (when in transit). Still a distinct round 'dot'. 1440BST Good clearing in the clouds. Tried a few experimental pics with Olympus Digital camera 'hand-held' at eyepiece. Camera set to manual, Had some success, managed to image Mercury on the solar disk! 20160509. 1458.00BST Instrument: 80mm f/11.4 Vixen Refractor. Revelation 50mm Dielectric Diagonal, 26mm Vixen Plossl. CG4 GEM, on a 'heavily-modified' surveyors tripod. Manually tracked. Camera: Olympus VR310 Digital camera, 'hand-held', set to Manual, f/5.7, ISO80, Exposure: 1/250sec.
