I read your story on the recently submitted "cloud top flash" picture (http://spaceweathergallery.com/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=124405) Back in 2008 I was able to observe a similar, quite dramatic phenomenon, from La Palma (28°45,797’ N, 17°53,786’ W, 2136 m). As the picture shows, not only is there a blue-green cloud-top flash from the setting sun, but also the layer of clouds atop the setting sun shows green-blue hued upper rims. Canon EOS 30D with Scopos Observer 62, focal length 560 mm, f/8.4.
