Details:
As mentioned in a previous post, I am testing ways to resolve the lunar surface with point-and-shoot cameras including smartphones. In the afternoon and early evening, capturing surface features is possible, even with auto exposure settings. After dusk however, the Moon is usually overexposed. In a twist of irony, framing the Moon with a streetlight can force the camera to close up its lens and thereby avoid overexposure. Changes to standard settings should also be tried to find the best balance of lighting. Good luck if you give this method a try!
