Aurorae vs. moonlit Clouds

This has been likely the strongest and most impressive auroral display of the last few nights (with the intensest period occurring around 1:00 AM) and being much brighter than the surrounding moonlit clouds - if not outshining the Moon itself being 3/4 illuminated. We were glad to have ventured out to observe this fantastic display despite a not so promising weather forecast predicting a dense cloud cover as well as 4 inches of snow, and most geomagnetic/auroral predictions expecting quiet conditions for last night. You just never know!

Details: Canon 5D MK3 w/14mm f/2.8 lens (ISO 800, 6 sec.) and Nikon D800 w/24mm f/1.4 lens (ISO 400, 2-3 sec.)
