Details:
It was completely cloudy at the house in Lochearnhead at midnight, while the satellite weather hinted at clear skies to the East. I chose to set off, and only had to drive ten miles before the stars appeared. At a handy pull-off between St Fillans and Comrie I could see a quiet glow on the horizon, so I decided to wait it out. Sure enough, after twenty minutes some faint rays started to form, and by forty minutes past midnight the display peaked with a fine rayed arc. No colour could be seen with the naked eye, but the rays slowly danced as they made their way to the east. The good part of the display lasted about ten minutes. Chasing clear sky like this almost never works due to the vast distances involved, this time I got lucky!
