Details:
I was amazed to behold this bright and beautiful sundog that appeared just as the sun was setting behind a hill with a flag on top. This was taken from my front yard in Canyon Lake, Texas in Hill Country. The conditions were just right for this amazing spectacle - it was cloudy in the mid 40s during most of the afternoon, but then the clouds disappeared and the sun came out blazing. The temperature rose 20 degrees and a light fog formed across the hills. As soon as the light of the setting sun met the mist - VOILA! A feast for the eyes.

I live nearby, that corona was likely from all the cedar (Juniper) pollen. It was as thick as a smoke in an Idaho ski valley!!!

You know what, dougr855 - I think you are absolutely correct! It had been foggy - we had been under a dense fog advisory that day and the day prior into the late mornings because of the temp changes; however, this was an early evening fog - and we were also just covered with Cedar pollen. I think the sunlight filtering through the pollen/moisture mist created that corona - sure enough. Ive seen the sun filter through regular fog before, but it never created a corona image like this so the pollen had to play a role.

Thats quite correct, a pollen corona. I had no idea that Texas has significant airborne pollen in January ;-).
