Details:
I had finished guiding a tour on the night of the 5th Jan with some nice aurora for my guests. I took the usual drive home a few KM away and as usual after leading a tour I tend to be a little 'awake' and restless! Making a cup of tea in the kitchen I suddenly saw quite an impressive aurora kick in at around 2am (by now it was the 6th Jan). Of course I could not resist hopping outside with my camera to capture the lights above the house where I live. I then saw that the aurora was directly behind the sign for the bar that is a few hundred metres from my home, aptly named the 'Aurora Bar'. This was an image begging to be taken and although a little challenging with so much light pollution from nearby street lights and the sign itself I did manage a shot of the lights by the sign. Somewhat comical I thought!
