Details:
On Jan 2nd I was out looking for auroras and whales with my friend Christine. Auroras was strong at the beginning of the evening but activity faded later on. Only faint bands were visible around midnight.
Luckily I had told Christine to bring a white dress for a possible astro-portrait-shoot under the stars and auroras.
Milky way watching is not optimal at my latitudes. However I still think it was strong enough for a good "under the stars portrait".
Huge credit to Christine managing to sitt still for many shots lasting several seconds, in freezing cold (-12C) for me to be able to complete the shoot.
Outside at sea we could also hear the whales breathing and making sounds. What a magical experience, even with just weak auroras.
This also illustrates that auroras are almost always here at these northern latitudes, even when barely visible to the eyes. As long as there are clear skies here, there are always auroras, even if weak. A long exposure will reveal them better.
