My guess is that this cloud formation was the result of cold air flowing over Sandia Crest, but that's just a guess and I have no idea how it formed itself into this beautiful shape. If you have any additional info or if you've seen something like this before, I'd love to hear about it! I'd never seen anything like it. I converted this image to a toned B&W and applied a tone curve, but everything else is as photographed.

Your photograph reminds me of Ansel Adams Moonrise Over Hernandez New Mexico, or something Georgia OKeefe would have painted. Thanks for posting.
