Details:
All day I had watched the progress of the aurora, as the KP continued to sour, longing for darkness to fall. Together with Oliver Wright I was hosting a group of 14 guests for Lights over Lapland and the recent CME had been a much talked about topic. From late afternoon the aurora peeped through but not yet revealing the full impact of the CME. That is until we had just mobilised our guests into position, gently the aurora started to dance, the intensity growing and then the clouds parting ways like a curtain being drawn and then BOOM! the first of what turned out to be several coronas of the night that exploded above our heads. The shapes and patterns that followed were just incredible as it danced with so fast and with such intensity!
