Details:
Yesterday the New Moon became visible with difficulty about 20 minutes after sunset due to a combination of heat haze, clouds of smoke and reflection of sunlight from a weak volcanic aerosol twilight arch. The six close-ups of the still very thin crescent moon, taken between 18.17 and 18.31 LT, show the dramatic change in sky color which took place in just 15 minutes as smoky twilight gave way to darkness. The two general views show the moon just after it first appeared and later setting through the twilight sky. The current intense heatwave with temperatures in the mid-to upper thities centigrade and poor visibility due to heat and smoke made it difficult to obtain these pictures which were captured using a hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ 60 compact camera in sunset auto and night sky modes.
