Details:
On a flight Monday evening from London to Newark, I made sure I was on the right side of the plane, where I got a good view of a somewhat distant aurora, visible roughly from south of Greenland to halfway across Labrador. The plane was a United Boeing 767, and I was just behind the wing. The camera is old (Canon 5D) and not great in low light, but the flight wasn't too bouncy, so 3-second time exposures at 1600 ISO at f1.8 on a fixed 5mm lens did an okay job.
