Details:
I couldn't see any auroras on the night of Nov 3 but I recorded the geomagnetic storm using my homemade magnetometer. It's a bar magnet suspended from a string with a mirror on it. It also has "fins" attached to the bottom of the magnet that rest in water for dampening. A video camera is aimed at the mirror which focuses on a scale I printed out. As the bar magnet moves due to fluctuations in the magnetic field the video camera records the movement to analyze later. I am always surprised how well my data matches data from the closest magnetometer to me (Victoria, BC). In this hour-long period the magnet moved about 21mm at a distance of about 8 feet. Each tick mark on the video frames is 1mm and the red vertical line is what I used as a reference to track the movement.
