Details:
Occultation of chi-Leo (4.7mag) by Mars (1.7mag) with conjunction to Jupiter. This occultation occurred in the next morning of Mars-Jupiter conjunction within 0.4 degrees, so the 2 planets were still very close. 4 scenes are compared. The interchange of Mars and chi-Leo can be seen. Magnified sequential images show more clearly the interchange of their position. Nikon COOLPIX P610 digital camera; ISO 1600, F6.5, 1/3s exposure, f=1440mm (trimmed).

APOD! That is too good for me!
I hope somebody could succeed in taking photos through a telescope with a red marble image of Mars occulting the star! That can be suitable for APOD.

I found a typo in this photo, not c Leo but chi(greek) Leo. I forgot to convert the font of character c to Symbol.

This time Mars (1.7 mag) occulted chi-Leo (4.7 mag). Occultation of a star by a planet is rare, but this year there might be another occultation. In December 4 (UTC), Mercury (-0.5 mag) may occult theta-Ophiuchi (3.2 mag), and both of them are brighter than this time, but it cannot be seen from Japan.

There are at least five time frames with Mars that are red.
This is still a great shot for APOD.....
