Nice capture. my guess is light pillars

The light pillars guess is right. The images represent reflections of distant earthbound light sources in a thin cloud layer which obviously exists of ice crystals with horizontally oriented faces. So actually we see a halo phenomenon, not induced by sunlight but by artificial light sources however.

would these have shown as far away as Indiana from Michigan? I posted these pics to the weather channel site as well and someone in Indiana reported seeing them as well.

If the reflecting cloud veil is in high atmospheric levels (as halo-generating clouds commonly are), they may reflect light sources even from behind the horizon. The reflections (light pillars) will appear then at low elevations in the sky, just as can be seen in the images.
