MESSIER 8 [Image Of Team] Collective image obtained with the contribution of the following amateur astronomers (in alphabetical order). Credits: Leonardo Ciuffolotti, Riccardo De Benedictis, Giuseppe Donatiello, Rolando Ligustri, Tim Stone RA: 271,039° Dec: -24,379° M8 - The Lagoon Nebula (NGC 6523) is a giant H II region in the constellation Sagittarius at 4,000-6,000 light years. The nebula contains several Bok globules (dark, collapsing clouds of protostellar material), the most prominent of which have been catalogued as B88, B89 and B296.
