Details:
The first quarter Moon exactly half illuminated by the sun occurred at 19.31 UT this evening 22 August 2015. The first picture taken at 19.28 UT (21.28 LT) captures the event (far right) as viewed from Mutare in Zimbabwe with Saturn at closest approach (just visible far left almost exactly level with the horizontal terminator on the Moon). The second picture taken at higher magnification (x60 zoom) at 19.38 UT shows the perfect first quarter Moon suspended bright side down in the sky to the west of Mutare. Both photographs are manual exposures taken using a tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera.
