Details:
Despite haze and clouds today, managed to capture a few images in white light of AR2396. Although I've tried multiple combinations of AVI file size; different stacking software - Registax 6 and Avistack 2 with different parameters; and various photo editing filters, I've yet to match granulation details as some others have. I have DIY remote focusing which can be quite accurate. Am beginning to think that I've reached the Dawes resolution limit for a 115 mm/800 mm fl scope. Have ordered an ASI174mm to see if resolution improves even though the field will be larger. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. TS 115 mm APO triplet; Baader wedge; ASI120MM; 3X Barlow; FireCapture 2.3; Regaistax 6; PSP7.

Hi Bill
I believe your 115mm refractor is capable of better resolution. I had shot images with a 80mm and the detail is definitely there. I believe your problem is the fire capture software you are using. I personally use sharpcap and it has giving me great results. It allows my camera full resolution to be use. And most of the h-alpha, Cak and withe light images I had posted are only 300 stacks. The other major problem is registax6 theres a long learning curve using it. It allows you to do so many things that you probably havent heard of. Try sharpcap if you havent try it if that doesnt improve the noise on your images let me know. And Ill tell you my secret parameters I use on registax6. I still think your images are incredible and always keep up the good work.

Many thanks Sergio - I do appreciate your feedback. Will try SharpCap tomorrow and let you know how it works out. Oddly enough, with H1a, lunar and planetary imaging, I dont seem to have the same problem.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Sergio;

Tried several combinations today:

my DMK41 with FireCapture 2.3 and IC Capture 2.2
my ASI120MM with FireCapture 2.3 and SharpCap 2.6

Viewing conditions were not bad today but air turbulence remains.

SharpCap 2.6 is neat - it is intuitive and has a good variety of options. Will need time to become more adept with it.

In the end, my images were essentially similar with minor subtle differences. Now, it seems to me that the common denominator is Registax 6. I have used it for several years now in preference to Avistack 2 and, am pleased with it in H1a, lunar and planetary imaging - no particular problems. With w/l though, I still can not get sharp granule edges and, that elusive translucency within the granules. The offer of your secret Registax parameters would be appreciated and, I can be reached at whrudey@candw.ky so you will not have to share them with the world.

Will post examples of todays images using SharpCap 2.6

Many thanks in advance,

Bill
