The phase of Venus has now dropped below 2.5% which, from earlier observations of the crescent Venus in the run up to the 2012 transit, was the threshold beyond which cusp extensions started to appear. Here's a shot of the planet from 9 August, with a phase of 2.1% and the extensions on view.

Ive seen the full circle visually, but this conjunction will be NOWHERE NEAR close enough for that.
