Details:
Venus and Jupiter were about 1/2ยบ apart on the evening of June 29, 2015 when I used a 300 mm Nikkor lens at f5.6 and a Nikon D700 digital camera for this 8 second exposure at ISO 1600. All four of Jupiter's giant moons are visible alongside the giant planet -- Ganymede and Io to the upper left, Europa and Callisto to the lower right. The diffraction spikes are caused by the blades of the iris diaphragm inside of the lens. The camera and lens were guided on a tripod-mounted iOptron tracker. Quite a spectacular sight!
