Details:
Airbus Beluga Dolphin 1 at cruise altitude photographed on June 13 through binoculars. This is my first image of the Beluga 1. The Beluga series of airplanes are about the most remarkable planes in the European sky and even have an indirect link with the history of NASA and even the Apollo lunar program. The 5 Belugas are operated by Airbus to transport plane parts between the different construction sites. Their remarkable shape, due to its resemblance to the white whale, called Beluga was inspired on the Aero Spacelines Super Guppy which was used by NASA and later taken over by Airbus. Its predecessor Pregnant Guppy was used by NASA in the 60s during the Apollo program to ferry outsized cargo items.
The image was taken in a special way; Taken with a Sony TRV-740 camcorder through 7x50 binoculars with maximal zoom, creating an image scale comparable with a small telescope. The mobile system is used handheld. Noise reduction by stack of 3 frames. Still frames from video. Click for full view.
