Sun Calendar/Pinhole Camera (My Backyard Astronomy)
I set my camera up on the far side of my backyard. It was made from PVC pipe, duct tape, aluminum foil, paper, and one piece of B/W photographic paper. I had forgotten about it off and on for 6 months. Once my wife asked what the heck was taped to the fence out back. Oh no, don’t touch that. That’s my sun calendar camera. My son Ricky told me today he thought it was just a bunch of duct tape stuck to the fence. Yesterday it was time. “Tomorrow is the “Summer Solstice”. The sun will be at its highest point in the sky on the first day of summer, the longest day of the year.
Processing: After scanning the paper image I ended up with a photo that was brownish in color with a bunch of dark lines running through it. I then took an image of my backyard standing right where the camera was pointing. I took the Pinhole photo and made a composite of with background and sky. The sky background is the pinhole camera photo. I lined it up and stretched it to fit my background. I made a few mistakes setting up the camera. I should not have pointed it to the equator. If I would have kept it level I would have captured the backyard also in the photo. So this by far is the longest time exposed photo I have ever taken--6 months!
