Details:
I almost missed this last night. After shooting time lapse from this spot and getting some nice airglow ribbons, I called it quits at about 1:30 AM. As I was driving back down the hill to home, I glanced out my side window and noticed the spreading clouds were suddenly very clearly outlined against the sky, like twilight was building in the North. So I made a quick stop, clamped the camera to the window for a test exposure and saw the exposure picking up pink and red over the hills and trees. So I whipped around and made the 10 minute drive back to my original spot overlooking Bonito Lava Flow to pick up where I left off. I'm pretty sure I missed the brightest display, and the clouds weren't doing me any favors. Anyway, here's one of the shots—in need of much processing still... 23 June 2015 - 2:17 AM MST - Sunset Crater National Monument, AZ.
