Details:
Though there were dramatic auroral displays across the U.S. and Canada last night, I'm not entirely convinced that they made it as far south as Southern California's Anza-Borrego Desert. This photo from behind my house shows what may be a weak auroral glow, but it was masked quite effectively by moonlight and thin clouds in the west and the horrendous spillage of light pollution from the Palm Springs area to the north. Is this the aurora? Is it normal airglow? Hard to say, but it was variable throughout the night, so perhaps... maybe tonight we'll get another shot at it, but the moon's light will be even brighter. The streak on the lower right is an airplane trail. Photo details: Nikon D750, AF-S Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8G ED lens at 14mm, ISO 2000, 13 sec at f/2.8
