Details:
Had been following the increase in geomagnetic activity but hadn't noticed any visible aurora. That's not exactly unexpected since i'm at only 30ยบ40' North. I finally noticed a very faint glow on above the northing horizon so decided to try at few pictures. The first few shots didn't reveal much but the activity brightened and I was able to catch an impressive view from this far south. The bright activity that I first noticed didn't last long, quickly fading back to a diffuse glow around the north. Before things faded completely, I did manage to get a few shots of the aurora with our big telescope domes. The first shot is just of the brightest period of the display. The next is a view of our 82" & 107" domes silhouetted by the aurora and then a more distant view of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope and the fading glow above.
