We were vacationing in Minnesota when these clouds rolled in. I sent these pictures to another site and they didn't know what there were either.

Its called -Asperatus clouds- (from the Latin -rough, brutal-)

Yes, asperatus clouds (or undulatus asperatus clouds) are rare, but not exceptional.
For example, it has been seen one time, last summer (August 2014) here in Paris, France.
Mostly before storm...
