Details:
These photos overlook Hayden Valley and the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park - one of my favorite spots in the park. I decided to head up there when I saw the sudden impulse warning at 0125 UTC, but when I got there it was almost entirely overcast; just a few spots of red visible through breaks in the cloud. As I waited it finally cleared to the north enough for a few shots. Unusually for around here, the Kp index never exceeded 3 all evening - normally it takes a 5 or more for visible aurora.
