These photos, taken with a Canon Powershot SX60 HS camera around 20:57 UT, show Mercury some 7° above the Northwestern horizon of Rio during evening twilight. This is not a favorable elongation for us, observers in the southern hemisphere (Rio is at 23°S latitude). Thus, the planet is barely visible to the naked eye. Note the unusual pink, red magenta and coral colors of layers below it, possibly still due to lingering traces of aerosols from Calbuco`s eruptions.
