Details:
For the second consecutive evening now, an impressive display of bright exotic colors produced by Calbuco`s plume of sulphur dioxide aerosols could be seen in Rio`s evening twilight sky. The effects became prominent ten minutes after sunset and lasted for forty minutes, peaking at 20:49 UT, when the Sun was 4.5° below the horizon. At that moment a beautiful fan-like structure of bright pink and red-magenta crepuscular rays suddenly appeared. Shooting up from the northwestern horizon, they saturated the image with vivid colors during 3 breathtaking minutes that certainly added to the amazingly colorful display. Venus can be seen in some photos (far right). A Canon PowerShot SX60 HS camera on tripod was used for the shot.
