Magnetic response to geomagnetic storm
Taken by Stuart Green on March 1, 2015 @ An ongoing G1 magnetic storm, caused by fast flowing solar wind originating from a large coronal hole, is 'moving the needle' on magnetometers around the globe, including my own based here in the UK. The strongest response was just after midnight on the first day of the new month. This is the second such event in a matter of days.

Does this cause earth core magnetic flow stresses, or is this because of such eddy currents? If the first is true, then solar wind could have an effect on tectonics. If the second is true then not so much. Any thoughts on this, especially considering the recent frequency?
