Details:
This type of discharge reminds me of the Transient Ionospheric Glow Emission in Red (TIGER), that was recorded by the crew of the space shuttle columbia mission back in 2003, except this one was visible to the naked eye. This was a very brief flash similar to that of a flash from a camera. I left the shutter open just in case there was another flash but nothing else happened. Terry Richardson of Nasa requested a higher resolution scan of this photo to further analyze it but could never figure it out. The ionosphere has many hidden secrets that we have yet to discover. This photo was taken with a Canon AE1 camera with a 50mm lens set to F/1.8 for 30 seconds on Kodak 800 film.
