Details:
Starting around midnight a layer of thin high clouds moved in over the Moon. For the next hour or so there was a bright elliptical glow around the Moon, as well as fainter columns of light above and below it. A thicker layer of clouds moved in for a while and covered up the display, but right around moonset it began to clear up again. As the clouds parted it revealed an absolutely astonishing moon pillar. I've seen a few before, but this one was easily the brightest. It looked like a searchlight beaming up through the clouds! I ran up to the nearest overlook to get a better look, and found that nearby cities had ice pillars over them as well. Not a night I'll easily forget!
