Details:
This is the first season of running a new DSLR all-sky camera. The camera is ment to catch NLC, Aurora, Airglow and other atmospheric light phenomena. The camera runs every night, taking half a minute exposures at iso 3200 f/2,8. This month I surprisingly got some purple light emissions, at the end of 3 carbon fiber rods, surrounding the camera doom (preventing birds from landing on the doom). According to Les Cowley, this is clearly an electric phenomenon, most likely St. Elmo´s Fire. In all, the phenomenon showed up 5 times in December. The first time at the night between 10th. and 11th. and lightning showed up a few minutes later. Also the following night there were lightning and 2 frames with the purple light at the end of the rods. I made a little time-lapse video from the first recording of the phenomenon, see here: http://youtu.be/fkcFQjy69cs
