Details:
Venus begins a new evening apparition, reappearing from behind the sun. After sunset it is very low in the sky these days and sets quickly. To catch a glimpse of the evening star, you will need an unobstructed horizon and crisp skies. A pair of binoculars will help spot it. Visibility will improve during the next weeks. By the end of December it should be plainly visible even from mid northern latitudes. The image above was shot on December 2, 2014 at 18:33 UT from the Canary island La Gomera. At a latitude of 28 deg N the ecliptic is quite steep, which favors the visibility of our sister planet. We captured Venus during civil twilight at an altitude of 3 degrees with the sun only 3 degrees below the horizon.
