A very special evening for myself, my wife and her brother, as we were looking at the laptop screen seeing the comet moving minute by minute towards Mars, and Mars also moving to meet the comet. Despite the low altitude of the dou at my location (only 11 to 6 degrees) the coma of the comet was visible, and also many stars in the background which added something extra to the scene. The images above are different stacks, either centered on the comet nucleus, the background stars or on Mars itself, each showing different aspects of the conjunction. Equipment used: TS APO 115mm F/7, ASI120MM and Baader UV/IR cut filter. Best of all were two animations that I could make from all of the 151 acquired frames, each a 15 second exposure. The animations can be seen here: http://maximusphotography.wordpress.com/2014/10/20/a-comet-passes-a-planet-october-19-2014/

Thank you! Glad you did look at the animations. They were the better result from that session.
