Details:
I had traveled north from Stockholm to meet up with my friend Göran Strand. We went up to a high viewpoint hoping for some northern lights during the night. The dark place and clear air gave us some unforgettable views of the Milky Way that stretched from horizon to horizon. At 22h13 we witnessed a magnificent last quarter moonrise with a very distinct earthshine. The sky turned a special hue of orange that I have observed for some weeks now in Stockholm at sunset as well. My guess is that it is due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland. And yes, we saw some faint and unexpected auroras on the northern horizon before ending the photosession. Canon Eos5D MkII with a 70-200/2.8 zoom. 30 sec at f/2.8 and 6,400 Iso.
