a little turquoise
Taken by John Stetson on February 22, 2008 @ South Portland, Maine at the Long Creek Youth Development Center, a juvenile correctional facility. Two of my students assisted with the image processing and the creation of a composite image.

Details:
At totally of the lunar eclipse on February 20, 2008, a little rim of turquoise appeared on the moon's limb near Tycho. The earth's stratosphere scatters light and provides the red color we see during a lunar eclipse; the turquoise/blue is provided by sunlight going through our ozone layer which absorbs red. The turquoise color on the moon has always been my favorite lunar eclipse detail.
