Gegenschein & Iridium satellite flare in Milky Way
Taken by Rolando De Michiel on August 21, 2014 @
This photo was taken near the end of the long runway at Birdsville, Central Queensland. Hence the sodium security lights at the airport spilt over to give the foreground an orange colour.

Details:
In the desert township of Birdsville in the Australian outback, the night sky is spectacular with its dark sky and high contrast. This night the gegenschein was extremely bright once my eyes were dark adapted. This shot not only captured the Milky Way but an Iridium satellite flare in the top third of the frame through part of the galaxy.
The photo was taken with a Canon EOS 6D using a Canon 14mm LII lens at f/2.8. The exposure was 30s at 8000ISO.
