Perigee Full Moonrise From Larch Mountain Oregon
Taken by Mark Seibold on July 12, 2014 @ Dear Dr. Phillips- An anticipated Perigee Full Moonrise from Larch Mountain Oregon about 40 miles East of Portland, is still my favorite viewpoint on all of the west coast, especially since I grew up here and built my own home in 1988 for my family only a 20 minute drive from this location. The evening started out with what appeared as mostly clear skies after a 90 degree day in Portland. I had anticipated a crowd at the 4,000 ft elevation patio on the mountaintop. But when the moon finally rose immediately into clouds, many people left, only the real artists and astronomers remained to see the spectacular image of the moon through what appeared as a heavenly eye. I produced over 180 images from my digital Sony NEX5 camera with a 43 year old Mamiya/Sekor 55mm f/1.4 lens adapted. I also post extensive albums in Facebook and my DP Review Gallery has higher resolution images. I am linking the Google+ site as a popular album with many of my sky images and panoramas. - Mark Seibold
