Details:
Near Earth Asteroid 2014 MF6 was listed on SpaceWeather as approaching our home planet to within 9 LD (Lunar Distance) with an estimated size of 305 metres, on 9th July 2014.
I was expecting a brighter object but when I imported the orbital elements into The Sky X Pro the indication was that this would be a mag 15.2 object.
From our back garden in Brisbane, on 8th July 1024, I soon acquired the field but not the NEO – what the! The orbital elements were relatively “fresh” having been imported just 24 hours ago. Slightly panicked, I activate the WiFi in the notebook and refreshed the elements from within The Sky X Pro and the object, as drawn on the computer screen, suddenly “jumped” downwards on my display roughly between 5 and 10 arcmins, just out of the Field Of View. I then waited for several 60 sec exposures to download and sure enough, the dim NEO appeared as a faint dashed trail. Some 26 frames later, the Asteroid exited the frame.
Cheers
Dennis
