Noctilucent clouds
Taken by George B. Szoke on July 7, 2014 @
I left London on the motorway at 1 am today and shortly after I discovered unusual clouds close to the horizon. Firstly I thought that it was the reflection of the light pollution of a town below on the clouds. But it wasn't!
I was driving about another 40-50 miles and they were still there! The night sky was nice and clear. I made continuous observations, and around 3am, close to Nottingham the clouds suddenly burnished. I immediately left the well lit motorway to find a dark enough place to take some shots. It was just luck that I had my photo gears with me. So using the roof of my car as a mount I took these images. It was awe-inspiring spectacle!
Luckily there was a lake there, covered by vapour so I had the opportunity to take some intimate nature photos as well.
It was an extraordinary experience through the whole night!
