The best display of Noctilucent clouds I've seen for a number of years. They were so bright, they actually lit up my room a blue colour. I've included an animated gif here so you can see the movement, but I have no idea if it will work...

Works great. Must be two layers, one lower and faster moving than top deck. Is the bottom deck really noctilucent as well?

I have seen this differential movement in many other time-lapse pictures of noctilucent clouds with what seem to be almost stationary waves aloft and the lower clouds moving approximately at right-angles to the crests of the upper waves. Something similar can also be seen in high tropospheric clouds where shear produces waves across the direction of the shear and then precipitation falls from the cloud, forming streaks in line with the shear. This is similar to ocean wave-crests at right-angles to the wind but with spindrift blowing across the tops of the waves in line with the wind.Perhaps something similar is happening here?
