Details:
As I was driving home from a public stargazing session on summer solstice night (June 21-22) at the local Rothney Observatory a fine display of noctilucent clouds appeared in the northwest as the sky was darkening on this shortest of nights. For us at latitude +51° this was not until 11:30 pm. As soon as I got home I shot some panorama images across the northern horizon. The display lasted until about 12:30 but faded as the Sun dropped lower below the horizon and the clouds were no longer illuminated. This was an unusual looking display with the vertical bands of clouds. This is a 5-section pan, with each segment shot with a 28-105mm zoom lens at 65mm for 13 seconds at ISO 800. I used PTGui to stitch the segments as Photoshop, usually superb at pan assembly, failed to match the segments because of the dark foreground and amorphous sky content.
