Details:
As the setting Sun broke through clouds it created a rainbow over my backyard. I see lots of fine sky phenomena right from my back deck in rural Alberta. Such was the case last evening as a storm retreated to the east as they typically do. Clearing skies in the west allowed the Sun to shine through, the perfect combination for an evening rainbow. In this case a fainter outer bow also appeared. With the Sun low in the northwest the rainbow exhibited a large arc, almost a semicircle, in the southeast. The lower the Sun the bigger the bow, or at least the more you see of it above the horizon. For this image I shot with an ultra-wide 14mm Rokinon lens on a Canon 6D full-frame DSLR to contain both inner and outer bows on one frame. We’re into stormy spring weather here in Alberta, so there will be many more rainbows to follow the dark clouds. Let’s hope for no more devastating floods like we had last June in southern Alberta. We'll take the rainbows, not the rain!
