Circumhorizon Arc
Taken by Rob Ferber on May 19, 2014 @ Driving across the Central Valley of California near Davis when the lower clouds parted and this magnificent set of colored bands - bright ones - came into clear view. Spectacular, I'd never seen one before. The intensity and clarity of the color was astonishing - there would be a brighter white horizontal band in the cloud, then as I drove further the white would explode into colors, then fade away as the clouds moved. Reappeared about five times over an hour. Certainly added to the drive! (Photos by passenger through windshield, with apologies for the specks).
