Here is my second tentative attempt at a Milky Way photo. This is a single exposure with a wide angle lens (Tokina 11mm) of 30 seconds, ISO 1600 / f2.8. It is taken from the old railway track that runs through Byron Bay. The light pollution from the street is very clear at the bottom of the photo, and the colour is shifted slightly towards red to remove the orange-green hue of the fluorescent street lights.
That "cloud" at the bottom is not an earth cloud, it's the Large Magellanic Cloud, a massive nearby galaxy.
